21 Analyse the impact of your own personal development on your counselling skills practice. (AC 2.1)

Counseling is an emotionally engaging activity. Therapists may acquire detachment tools for not becoming personally involved in the patient’s issues. Appropriate relaxation techniques like for example mediation will help me to detach from customer cases. Self-awareness and consciousness about own limitations may be a base to keep stability. A high level of self-awareness provides insight into customer thoughts and feelings and will support customers to evolve in the same direction. I am a person who is happy to test on myself any protocol or techniques. In the counseling field, I will actively review all new approaches & self-development is the most appropriate way to improve own workshop.

I need you to tell me how your counselling practice has been enhanced through personal development

There is a one-to-one correspondence between my personal development & counseling skills practice. All that I do work with and for is associated with communication skills improvement. This statement is perfectly confirmed by Hazel Johns (1996) Personal Development in Counsellor. My counseling practice evolve and was influenced even by completing this course. Before I had a chance to get credit from this course I done successfully two additional courses. It gives me a right to state that progress in both of those disciplines lingers with perfect harmony.

Description evaluation and reflection to interaction from Counsellor perspective.

Some background information about me:

In general, I am person deeply interested with other people. This interest help me to swap my reality and become other person without waring their shoes. I am naturally gifted with empathy. I enjoy the process pretty well, when I was younger I thought that every single person have skills like this. Later in live I found that it is not true. Most of people even if they have any sensitivity prefer to be in their comfort zone.

Situation describe here is occurrence with my friend and not with customer:

We met at university. Our relationship progressed as we moved with more and more lectures. One day I figure out that I spend with her on the phone almost two hours each day. Each time when she called I answered. So she start questioning what am I doing for live. I do not like an answer on this question thus, many people have believe that to have money they must to work hard. I do not like to reveal what I do to live.

She figure out that my live style is temptation to her. First off all was my friend intention to do something with her live. She was not happy to hold a job where her usually activities include carry of product and put it on shop’s shelfs. On the beginning I offered her solution but she do not like to consider it. When the time clicking away she discovered that I do not have normal job but I manage with my live pretty well. The subject of 3hours day work came back as boomerang. Especially that she had a proof that I do not work hard. And form this place we can start typical counselling story.

Counselling:

One day she asked me what to do to get better job and earn more money. I told her that I can help her to get any position she ever dreamed about but she will have some lessons to do and it will take about 8 hours of training to equip her in appropriate skills and mindset. Both we agree that after lectures I will spend with her 2 hours to show how proceed interview conversation. We can say that we have spoken counselling agreement according to her goals. After first session it become obvious that reaching point of her high conversational proficiency is out off range of previously mentioned 8hours. She agree that she work additional 2 hours per day in order to fasten process. In this place we can say that our spoken counselling agreement was amended. I love to reach my goals so my proposition was to provide her more homework to suit in 8hours of previously agreed session.

First session 120 minutes:

  • We identify limiting believes.
  • We figure out that it is not clear about long term goals.
  • We define clear career goals. Those goals were miserable.

Homework for her 120min:

  • IQ test
  • Clifton Strengths 34

Second session 120 minutes:

  • Assessing attitude of others toward us. Working on mindset.
  • First impression and all what is associated with verbal non-verbal communication.
  • Overcome of fear of answering telephone calls.
  • Identify 3 dreamed jobs.

Homework for her 120min:

  • Random call on 10 telephone numbers. And keep conversation at last 1minute.
  • Prepare CV she would like finally have without limitation (fake it until you maked)
  • Prepare actual CV based on real work experience.

Third session 120min:

  • Target was list of 50 the most difficult interview questions.
  • Answering on each 20 of them with always positive attitude to show advantages not weaknesses.

Homework for her 120min:

  • Get information from social media who are recruiters. What they like what is their hobby and employment history.
  • Prepare pitch to them based that we have similar hobbies and interest.
  • Prepare CV for concreate person rather then for company.

Fourth session 120min:

  • Send CV and immediately call to confirm if CV was obtained.
  • We elaborate 30 additional the most difficult questions.

Outcome:

She get invitation to every single vacancy she applied. After about two months she get an answer from every single employee that she get a job. ON the other hand she pick one position previously and she stick to it.

Evaluation

My friend targets were reached. However it must to be motioned that we done some adjustments in training. ON the other hand the time frame of 8 hours was done. The success ratio was 100%.

23 Evaluate how counselling skills practice has influenced/ influences your own personal development. (AC 2.3)

Counseling skills influence my practice in many ways. First of all counseling skills embodied in me as deeply, become part of my personality. The procedural schema of assessment as well as Gibbs and Kolb’s idea change the way how my perception work. Before I familiarized myself with counseling skills I did not plan in advance. My journey with personal development started about 8 years ago. From that period I started to plan execute and evaluate every single step in my career. Today I can say that I am quite effective with reaching my goals. On the other hand, some of my friends stated that I am machine to reaching targets and my commitment is not natural. I absolutely agree my commitment is not natural is planned and well-executed.
